Assange to return to Australia
WEB WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been freed from prison in the United Kingdom and is expected to travel home to Australia after he was granted bail.
Assange has been in prison since 2019, when he was arrested for jumping bail in the United States. He was facing charges of conspiracy to hack into a U.S. government computer system and espionage.
However, a British court ruled last week that Assange could be extradited to the United States, where he could face up to 175 years in prison. Assange's lawyers have appealed the decision to the High Court in London.
In a statement, Assange said he was "grateful for the support of my family and friends, and to all those who have campaigned for my freedom."
